Dar es Salam, Oct. 28, 2008 (WAM) - The Red Crescent Authority (RCA) team conducted yesterday 20 eye operations yesterday at the Tanzanian island of Bamba.
The RCA ophthalmologists checked 150 complicated and strabismus cases in the second day of the campaign, particularly among children. They provided the medical and sun glasses free.
Dr Saadallah Al Halbi, Ophthalmologist and member of the team, said the surgeries conducted today were for patients suffering from glaucoma and cataract cases.
Dr Nabil Fathi, another ophthalmologist and member of the team, said the clinical check-ups conducted by the team over the last two days revealed spread of cataract and glaucoma cases at Bamba Island, citing that the population at Tanzanian Islands, like others in horn of Africa, are exposed to direct ultraviolet rays that affect the eyes.
