UAE to invest US$40 million in Pakistan

Abu Dhabi, Oct 29, 2008 (WAM) - The UAE to invest US$40 million in agriculture project in Baluchistan, southwestern province of Pakistan according to a report in “Khaleej Times.”
The agreement will enable UAE government and a private international farming company, Al Dahra to set up an agriculture-based industry covering 18,000 acres of land in Mirani Dam command area to cultivate wheat, cotton, pulse and other grains.
This was reached during a meeting held between the visiting seven-member UAE delegation and Baluchistan Chief Minister, Nawab Raisani in Quetta on Saturday.
According to the agreement the construction work on the project starts early next year for which the government of Baluchistan has appointed a high-level committee to speed up the process in consultation with the UAE authorities.
Earlier the delegation also met Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, and showed interest in investing in the province especially in agriculture sector.
The delegation is also expected to visit the North West Frontier Province to meet officials there to explore possibilities of investing in these other provinces of Pakistan
