NAM Demands Disarmament Of Nuclear powers : Iran UN Envoy

New York, March 9, IRNA – The Non-Aligned Movement(NAM) demands disarmament of world nuclear powers, Iran’s Permanent Ambassador to the United Nations Mohammad Khazaei said. Speaking on behalf of the NAM members, he said at NAM members’ emergency meeting on nuclear Non Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Review Conference on Thursday evening that Non-Aligned Movement member-states wanted a world free from nuclear weapons. He said the NAM also urges defining a process to help spread peaceful use of nuclear energy among NPT signatories. He further stressed that any kind of review on NPT should include a process for disarmament of nuclear powers without discrimination. Rejecting any political interpretation of rights and obligations of NPT members by the NPT Review Conference, he called for an effective, transparent review of the treaty. Khazaei emphasized making the Middle East a free from nuclear weapons zone./end
