WEST JAVA HAS 3.780 CASES OF HIV/AIDS
Bandung, West Java, Oct. 31 (ANTARA) - West Java Province has a total of 3,780 cases of HIV/AIDS up to June 2008, comprising 1,674 cases of HIV positive and 2,106 AIDS.
The number of the HIV/AIDS cases this year increased by around 500 cases from the previous year, according to Yusar, an official of the West Java health service's HIV/AIDS Program section, here on Friday.
The increase in the number of HIV/AIDS cases recorded by the provincial health authorities showed that the public was more aware of the need to get proper medical treatment, he said.
In 2006, the provincial health service estimated that there were around 20,980 people vulnerable to the HIV/AIDS infection, he said.
He said that currently HIV/AIDS sufferers became more open and were willing to go to hospitals for treatment, and therefore their number on record increased.
