PRESIDENT ILHAM ALIYEV SIGNS EXECUTIVE ORDER TO CREATE SPACE INDUSTRY

Baku, 4 November,(AzerTAj)On November 4, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed an Executive Order on creating Space Industry in the country and launching telecommunication satellites into orbit.

The document reads: “The state programs and practical measures, which have been
implemented in the past few years to develop the non-oil sector of the country’s
economy, have opened wide opportunities for diversification and development of new
branches of industry.
The Republic of Azerbaijan is located in a very favorable geographic and economic
area that necessitates manufacturing and launching telecommunication satellites, one
of the basic components of economic and information security.”
Under the Order, “the Cabinet of Ministers shall within three months prepare and
submit to the President of the Azerbaijan Republic a draft State program on creation
and development of space industry in the Azerbaijan Republic,” and “the Ministry of
Communications and Information Technologies of the Azerbaijan Republic shall
undertake relevant measures connected with launching telecommunication satellites of
the Azerbaijan Republic into orbit.”
The Executive Order takes effect from the day it is signed.
