DEWA begins implementation of "Green Footprint" initiative

Dubai, July 9, 2013 (WAM) - Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has commenced the implementation of its "Green Footprint" initiative. This is part of DEWA 's strategy to reduce carbon emissions and minimise any negative effects on the environment, as well as to promote the conservation of natural resources. The initiative also aims to promote the concept of rational consumption of energy and water, set guidelines for the optimal use of energy and water, and educate the public about the best practices they can adopt in order to rationalise consumption for a sustainable environment, and to reduce the carbon footprint. DEWA said the initiative is in line with the Green Economy for Sustainable Development initiative announced by Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, which aims to promote sustainable development. DEWA will add a "Green Footprint Indicator" on the right-hand side of customers' monthly bills to educate them about the concept of "Green Footprint". The indicator will contain information about the carbon emissions made due to consumption of electricity and water to raise awareness on rational use of energy and water, as part of DEWA 's strategy to achieve the vision of Dubai in reducing electricity consumption by 30% by 2030, thus reducing carbon emissions. DEWA says that it continuously encourages customers to rationalise consumption in various ways, including promoting the use of eco-friendly products currently available in the market, such as energy efficient light bulbs and other appliances that contribute to reducing the consumption of electricity and carbon emissions, and thus help to protect the environment. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
