Al Jalila Foundation donates Dh 300,000 to Tawam Hospital to cover the treatment costs for patients with cancer and genetic disorders

Abu Dhabi, July 18, 2013 (WAM) - Al Jalila Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation that is championing healthcare improvements by investing in medical treatment, education and research, has donated Dh300,000 to Tawam Hospital to cover the costs of the much-needed treatment for patients with various forms of cancer and genetic disorders. Tawam Hospital, in affiliation with Johns Hopkins Medicine and part of the SEHA healthcare system, is one of the region's leading centres for oncology and genetic disorder research and treatment.
The donation from Al Jalila Foundation is a welcomed boost that gives critically ill patients greater access to the best medication, blood tests, X-Rays, medical equipment, and chemotherapy.
Al Jalila Foundation was officially launched as a not-for-profit organisation by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on 1 April 2013. The Foundation is a local initiative with global aspirations that aims to make lasting and significant contributions in healthcare to transform lives. Its mandate is to promote medical treatment, education and research by investing in the UAE's medical treatment capabilities; providing scholarships to nurture a home-grown generation of medical professionals; and awarding grants for ground-breaking research that addresses health challenges prevalent in the region. In line with its vision to be a global healthcare foundation, Al Jalila Foundation collaborates with other philanthropic organisations locally and internationally to achieve regional and global benefits.
Tawam Hospital is part of the SEHA Health System and are owned and operated by SEHA, which is responsible for the curative activities of all the public hospitals and clinics in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
