Bus fares lower while goods prices remain unchanged
(KPL) The bus fares for the northern and southern routes had been lowered to reflect the decrease in the oil price but the prices of goods and commodities keep untouched.
The bus fares for long distance journeys as well as those of short distance journeys run by suburban buses in Vientiane Capital decreased by 20 kip per kilometre after the Ministry of Public Works and Construction issued a notice to rationalize the prices of bus fares recently.
The fares of the normal buses plying the northern route (Vientiane- Luang Prabang) decrease from 100,000 kip to 95,000 kip and the southern route (Vientiane-Pakse) ones, decrease from 130,000 kip to 115,000 kip.
Mr Toui Phommasing, Head of the Transport Service said, “The need for another adjustment should be considered as the recent decrease in bus fares was based on the price of diesel within the band of 8,000 kip and 10,000 kip per litre. Presently, the price of diesel is 7,310 kip per litre.”
Currently the price of oil on the world market has further decreased to US$60 per barrel.
According to an official of the Lao State Fuel Enterprise, the price of oil may head southwards in the days to come.
