Translator plans to invite Umberto Eco to Iran

TEHRAN,Sep.3(MNA) -- Iranian translator Gholamreza Emami plans to invite Umberto Eco to attend a ceremony in Tehran at which a Persian translation of a collection of the Italian writer’s stories will be unveiled. Persian translations of “The Three Astronauts” (1989), “The Bomb and the General” (1988) and “The World is Round” (1993) will be published in a collection named “Three Stories” in Iran in the near future. Emami has translated the stories, which will be released by Chekkeh Publications. “During my recent trip to Italy, I met Eco and he said that these stories can entertain readers from 9 to 90 years old,” Emami told the Persian service of MNA. He said that he has obtained the permission from the Italian publishers for releasing the book in Iran. “The Bomb and the General” is about an important general who collects atoms and puts them into bombs that he stores in his attic in preparation for war, but the atoms prefer to live in harmony and sneak out. “The Three Astronauts” features a Martian’s concern for a frightened bird, which shows three space explorers from America, Russia, and China that just because two creatures look different doesn’t mean they have to be enemies. “The World is Round” is a story of a rose that wonders who she is, asking herself if she would still be Rose if her name were not Rose, and goes on a journey in search of herself. Born in 1932, Umberto Eco OMRI is an Italian semiotician, essayist, philosopher, literary critic, and novelist. “The Name of the Rose”, “Foucault’s Pendulum” and “The Island of the Day Before” are among his credits.
