BALI TO HOLD HUMANITARIAN CONCERT ON OCCASION OF WORLD AIDS DAY
Denpasar, Nov 17 (ANTARA) - On the occasion of World AIDS Day on December 1, 2008, the Bali AIDS Eradication Commission (KPA) would hold a humanitarian musical concert for HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) and AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) carriers.
"The event is expected to bring about a deep understanding and comprehension on HIV and AIDS, especially on habits among the youth which are highly prone to HIV/AIDS," spokesman for the KPA Bali chapter Mangku Karmaya M. Repro, said here Monday.
The concert would be held on Saturday, November 22, 2008 at Pemuteran village square, Buleleng regency, Bali.
This concert will provide a forum to deliver messages on HIV and AIDS to the young people.
Art and cultural approaches were considered a strategic alternative to deliver HIV and AIDS messages to the people.
This humanitarian concert was also expected to give an example, that music and comedies could also send messages on HIV/AIDS which could be more easily accepted by the people.
The concert would be promoted by Bagus Mantra and several Balinese artists like Bintang, Agung Wirasutha, Joni Agung and Lolak.
"This concert is not a sensation seeking effort, and has no personal interest. This is a form of Balinese artists' care for the eradication of HIV/AIDS," Bagus Mantra said.
Buleleng is considered as a perfect place to hold the concert, because it is the second largest area with HIV/AIDS cases after Denpasar since September 2008.
HIV/AIDS was discovered in Bali in 1987. Since then the Bali health agency had registered 2,323 cases. About 2007 cases affected people of the productive age of 15-39 years.
