Ambassadors, International organization representatives visit Sepon Operations
(KPL) On 14th November 2008, the management of OZ Lane Xang Minerals Limited (LXML) Sepon welcomed a group of Ambassadors and Heads of International Organizations led by H. E. Dr. Michele Forster, Australian Ambassador to Laos.
The site visit comprised Ambassadors from the embassies of Australia, America, Germany, France, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, and international organizations of The World Bank and European Union (EU). The delegation was accompanied by OZ Minerals Executive General Manager, Peter Albert, and welcomed at Sepon by the Operations General Manager, Mr. Phil Dunstan.
Prior to a site tour, Mr Dunstan gave a presentation to strengthen the delegation’s understanding in relation to the Sepon Operations production and direct benefits generated to the Lao Government, as well as the benefits being contributed to the local community of the Vilabouly District via community development programs.
The delegation also visited the gold and copper plants to see the production activities and products being produced and then visited the Huay Kong Training Centre where the company has supported community development trainings such as silkworm raising, weaving, mushroom growing, tailoring and frog farming; all aimed to provide the local Vilabouly people with skills that will assist in their income earning capacity.
OZ LXML Sepon is very committed to community development with specific projects in the Government supported areas of education, health care, business development, infrastructure, agriculture, and tourism. The Company provides directly $500,000 per annum to a trust fund to support these activities, but also contributes significantly more than this in its efforts to support the long term vision of a sustainable environment in Vilabouly.
The delegation was very keen to learn about the Company’s strong commitment and profile to protecting the environment as well as its direct contributions to the Government through taxes and royalties as well as the many and varied community assistance projects.
