MINISTER: BROADCASTING WORLD MUST BE READY TO SWITCH TO DIGITAL SYSTEM

Nusa Dua, Nov 24 (ANTARA) - The broadcasting world was expected to get ready to migrate from the analog to the digital system, a minister said.

"The migration to the digital system is now a must," Communications and Information Minister M. Nuh said on Monday when opening the 45th Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union conference in Nusa Dua, Bali.

"There are at least two reasons for the broadcasting system to migrate to the digital system. The first is because the tools produced nowadays and in the future for broadcasting transmissions will be based on the digital system," Nuh said.

If there is a broadcasting institution still using the analog system, it may have to stop operating soon in the future.

The second reason, said Nuh, is because there will be restrictions in using the analog system, like in the use of channels and frequency.

He said the broadasting world in Indonesia will switch to digital system, and this has become an urgency.

"The Japanese broadcasting institutions are predicted to have switched to the digital system by 2012, but Indonesia has just launched the system this year," Nuh said.
