MIGRANT WORKERS TOLD TO PROMOTE THEIR QUALITY
Kuwait City, Nov 23 (ANTARA) - The Head of the National Agency for the Placement and Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers has called on the Indonesian migrant workers in the formal sector abroad to promote the quality of their performance.
"It is important so that foreign companies will use more Indonesian workers," Moh Jumhur Hidayat said in a meeting with formal sector workers in Kuwait City.
The meeting was attended by Indonesian migrant workers in oil mining, nursing and hotel sectors.
"I'm proud of them because they can be in the middle-level position and give an influence on the company's policy," he said.
"It can be used to promote the Indonesian workers. Morever, the Indonesian government will gradually reduce the number of informal sector workers," Hidayat added.
The Indonesian government supports the sending of Indonesian workers to work in the formal sector abroad where they may get more security protection and income.
Of about six million Indonesian migrant workers working in about 41 countries, about 30 percent work in the formal sector.
"I am sure the number of Indonesian migrant workers in the formal sector in the future will keep increasing," he added.
The Indonesian government, Hidayat said, keeps on trying to open the worker market abroad for the Indonesian migrant workers.
"Therefore, I hope would-be Indonesian migrant workers would prepare themselves with proper knowledge and skills before they work abroad," he said and added he hoped the Indonesian migrant workers abroad could give a positive image to Indonesia.
