INDONESIA RECEIVES US$200 MILLION LOAN
Jakarta, Nov 24 (ANTARA) -- Indonesia was reported to receive a loan of US$ 200 million from the Agence Francaise de Development (AFD) to support national working plans of overcoming climate change.
The document on the assistance to be provided to Indonesia in the framework of a climate change program loan will be signed on November 25, 2008 in Jakarta by AFD President Director Jean-Michel Severino and Director General of the Finance Ministry Rahmat Waluyanto which will be witnessed by Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati and French Deputy Ambassador to Indonesia Yean--YVes Roux.
A release made available to Antara here on Monday said the loan to be channeled in the form of a budget assistance is aimed to support the Indonesia's working plan in overcoming climate change and help implement the target and action as approved in policy matrix for three years.
The target of policy matrix was divided into three parts, namely mitigation, adaptation and cross sector problems, he said.
For this program, AFD would become a partner of the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) which had allocated a loan of US$300 million to the government of Indonesia.
In addition, AFD will also provide a grant, loan package, targeted technical assistance to the industry ministry following energy efficiency in cement and steel industries and to the forestry ministry for feasibility study, small scale green carbon market and space layout planning methodology.
The AFD is an institution of the French government which has a mission to help develop the countries in the south in the framework of official development assistance of the French government.
This institution has been active in 70 countries, as it also finances proverty eradication projects, economic growth and the protection of the world interest and has also channeled US$3.5 billion in loans for various projects such the education of 5.8 million children and the supply of clean water for four million people in the world.
