PACE STANDING COMMITTEE APPRAISES PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS IN AZERBAIJAN

Baku, 29 November,(AzerTAj)As reported earlier, the Madrid meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe focused on a number of questions, including the October presidential elections in Azerbaijan.

President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Luis Maria
de Puig stated the people of Azerbaijan had freely elected their president. All the
processes conform to the Council of Europe standards and principles, he stressed.
13 members of the PACE Standing Committee made statement in regard with the
question, head of the Azerbaijan delegation to PACE Samad Seyidov said. Especially
were active representatives from Germany, Great Britain.
Speakers have characterized the election process from different aspects, also noting
the improved election legislation of Azerbaijan.
The discussions on presidential elections in Azerbaijan have ended and the matter
will not be discussed in the forthcoming January session of PACE, Mr. Seyidov said.
