Bahrain backs UAE right to isles
Abu Dhabi, Dec 1, 2008 (WAM) - Bahrain's expressed yesterday its support for the UAE right to its three islands, occupied by Iran, and commended persistent efforts being made by the UAE wise leadership for direct dialogue and negotiation with Iran or referring the issue to the international arbitration.
''The Islands of Greater and Lesser Tunbs and Abu Musa are part and parcel of the Arab World and history stands witness to that ......Bahrain firmly believes that the UAE will one day take back these islands, said Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Dhahrani, Speaker of Bahrain's House of Representatives (HR), said during talks today with Speaker of Federal National Council (FNC) Abdul Aziz Al Ghurair.
Al Ghurair highly appreciated Manama's stance and highlighted the bilateral ties.
''The UAE will continue to call Iran for dialogue to settle the issue through peaceful means," he said, adding that relationship with Iran will remain as it is given Iran status as a Muslim country and a neighbour.
