Japan, India renew vow to cooperate in fight against terrorism

TOKYO, Dec. 1 Kyodo - Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso and his Indian counterpart, Manmohan Singh, reconfirmed cooperation on fighting terrorism in a telephone conversation Sunday night, Japanese officials said.

Aso offered his condolences over the terrorist attacks on Mumbai and expressed
the hope that the Indian people soon overcome the tragedy, the officials said.
He told Singh Japan is prepared to do all it can to prevent the terrorist
attacks in Mumbai from destabilizing the region, the officials said.
Singh said Indian authorities are carefully investigating the three-day rampage
by suspected Islamist militants in the Indian financial capital.
As many as 195 people were reportedly killed in the attacks, including 22
foreigners.
Singh told Aso India wants to continue to cooperate with Japan in the fight
against terrorism and plans to take every measure to help Japanese people and
companies operate safely in India, the officials added.
During their summit talks in Tokyo in October, the two leaders agreed to build
a bilateral security cooperation framework including cooperation on
antiterrorism and disaster preparedness.
