AZERBAIJAN STATE OPERA AND BALLET THEATER PRESENTED NEW PRODUCTION OF “SEVEN BEAUTIES”
Baku, 01 December,(AzerTAj)On November 29 Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater presented entirely new production of “Seven Beauties” ballet by Gara Garayev.
The ballet was staged to mark the 90th anniversary of renowned Azerbaijani
composer, People’s Artist of USSR and State Prize Winner Gara Garayev. “Seven
Beauties” is the most famous Garayev’s piece, based on Nizami poem of the same name.
The ballet written by Gatra Garayev as a tribute to great Azerbaijani poet on
occasion of his 800th centenary had enjoyed world-wide popularity. The ballet was
first performed in 1952 at the Azerbaijan Opera and Ballet Theatre.
“Seven beauties” lasted in the repertoire of the Theater for many long years;
however was taken off the stage later on. On the eve of Gara Garayev’s jubilee the
ballet saw major changes with new choreography and costumes. The new production of
“Seven Beauties” sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism was conducted by
our compatriot Elshad Bagirov and choreographed by renowned Russian ballet master
Vasili Medvedev. Libretto based on Nizami`s poem was prepared by Yana Temiz. Dmitry
Cherbadjid designed the stage. The first night featured dancers of the State Opera
and Ballet Theater, including Islam Islamov, Samir Samadov, Kamilla Huseynova,
Yelena Skomoroshenko and soloists Nigar Ibrahimova, Tamilla Mammadzade and others.
