Iran slams new US sanctions as opposite to Geneva deal

TEHRAN, Aug. 31 (MNA) – Iran’s FM spokeswoman said new US sanctions against the Islamic Republic are opposite to the Geneva Joint Plan of Action.
Marzieh Afkham said on Saturday the new sanctions that the US imposed on the Islamic Republic of Iran are in contrast to the Geneva deal and opposite to the resolving process of nuclear talks.
On Friday, just before the new round of nuclear negotiations between Iran and the 5+1 group – US, UK, Russia, France and China plus Germany – Washington announced sanctions targeting a diverse set of entities and individuals under various Iran-related authorities.
Afkham said that this US action will have negative effects on nuclear negotiations process and asserted that such actions cast doubts on US and the other negotiators’ good intentions in the nuclear talks.
“Such actions cause doubts on their commitment to any probable final deal between Iran and the Sextet,” added Afkham and went on saying that “Tehran expects the G5+1 to commit to its agreement.”
“Islamic Republic of Iran reiterates that it preserves its all rights to utilize all its legitimate rights in favor of Iranian interests and the consequences are all upon the US and other members of the 5+1 group,” said Afkham.
She said that the US should seriously and palpably apply a realistic and firm approach regarding Iran peaceful nuclear negotiation.
