Iran seeks balance between East and West
TEHRAN, Sept.3 (MNA) – Indonesian ambassador to Iran has said the Islamic Republic of Iran seeks balance between East and West.
In an exclusive interview with MNA Indonesian ambassador to Iran talked about political relations between the two countries and called for regional resolution for ASEAN.
What follows is the text of the interview.
Before leaving for India, US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel stated that “I am going to India to look for new partnership in Asia-Pacific. We are after new partnership not only in the field of military but also in the field of economics.”
Many strategists say at the moment, the most important and the main threat to the US is China. And the US should focus on China and Asia-pacific. What do you think of this?
First you must understand this is analysis by different institutions. They may say anything they want. This is a relation between the US and other countries. You mentioned India; to be frank; I don’t know what they will do. Will they sign an agreement or not? It is not my business. But the most important thing for me is what happens in the region where Indonesia lies- south East Asian region, where the US also has interests to get involved in Asia. Of course like other countries, the US has comprehensive partnership agreement with Indonesia. What I mean by comprehensive agreement is an agreement to expand operation in many areas. What makes us concerned is the involvement of the great major powers in the South China Sea problem.
