Iranian Biological Resources Center’s Catalogue In GCM

Tehran, Sept 30, IRNA - The catalogue of Iranian Biological Resources Center has been published in the Global Catalogue of Microorganisms (GCM), which is a comprehensive database of microbial resources. Dr. Abolhassan Shahzadeh-Fazeli, the head of the center, said GCM is an initiative of WFCC World Data Center for Microorganisms (WDCM), a data center of the Word Federation for Culture Collections (WFCC). He noted that the catalogue contains information of over 480 microorganisms, including archaea, bacteria, molds and yeasts. The database can also be accessed at http://gcm.wfcc.info/950 and http://gcm.wfcc.info/IBRC GCM is a compilation of individual strain’s information such as nucleotide and protein sequences, genome sequence and references citing a particular strain, automatically extracted from various sources, including Genbank, Pubmed and SwissProt, using specially-designed tools. This system is designed to assist culture collections to manage, disseminate and share the information related to their holdings. It also provides a uniform web-based interface for the scientific and industrial communities to access the comprehensive microbial resource information and promote the use of microbial resources in various industries./end
