Toyota to reduce production in N. America

NEW YORK, Dec. 6 Kyodo -
Toyota Motor Corp. said Friday it will further reduce production in North
America by suspending work at some of its plants in the region by up to 10 days
from January to February, on the back of sharp declines in sales there.
Hit by the deterioration in the U.S. economy, Toyota's new car sales in the
United States fell 33.9 percent in November from a year earlier, prompting the
major Japanese automaker to increase breaks at its production bases in North
America, including ones in Kentucky and Canada, it said.
The decision follows its large-scale production adjustment in North America,
revealed in July, when the automaker said it would suspend production at its
U.S. plants that produce large-size cars for about three months starting in
August.
