MUETIA HATTA RESPECTS PROPOSAL ON HER RUNNING FOR PRESIDENCY
Cirebon, Indonesia, Dec 7 (ANTARA) - General Chairman of the Indonesia's Justice and Unity Party Prof Dr Mutia Hatta said she really respected a proposal tendered by her cadres and symphatizers who wanted her to run for presidency in the 2009 general election.
"In her visits to some regions including Cirebon, many people supported her to run for presidency. Their high intention deserved to be respected and however I must be prepared for that goal," she said after installing the executives of her party for Cirebon chapter at Apital Hotel, Cirebon, on Sunday.
However, the daughter of this Indonesian proclamator (Bung Hatta) was still confused to run for presidency, because she was not sure whether the Indonesian nation was really ready to be led by a female president.
"The God (Allah) has destined the fate of Indonesia in the sense whether it will be led by female or male president in the future. We just let the results of general election go in accordance to the choice of the people.
"My target now is how to gain votes as many as possible. How can the votes of the party pose a bargaining power in offering coalition with other parties," she said.
Mutia Hatta also reminded legislative candidates of her party to do the best for the sake of the nation and they have to discard all kinds of intention to enrich themselve by committing corruption.
However, she was confident that she would be able to get bigger votes from women in the general election in April next year.
