Obama’s letter aimed at securing Iran’s co-op: Daily

Tehran, Nov 10, IRNA - 'Iran Daily' on Monday noted that US President Barack Obama’s letter to Iran’s Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei can be looked upon from another angle and that is Iran’s nuclear energy program and a comprehensive deal with P5+1. Iranian officials have repeatedly announced that they will only negotiate with the US over the nuclear case and the letter could pave the way for striking a final and comprehensive agreement, added the English-language paper in its Opinion column. As for Iran’s strategy, cooperation should be focused on resolving the nuclear issue and Iran’s collaboration with the US over ISIL appears to be highly unlikely, it wrote. The terrorist group ISIL is threatening the entire region and any insecurity in the Middle East could potentially jeopardize Iran’s interests. The US needs to establish a more substantial presence in the region in order to pursue its goals. It would be a setback for the US if it fails to safeguards its interests in the region, underscored the paper. Dissatisfaction with the Obama administration’s foreign policy has already cost the Democratic Party its majority in the Senate. Therefore, President Obama’s failure in the Middle East could even result in the victory of the Republicans in the presidential election. Given to America’s inability to restore peace and security to Iraq and Afghanistan, Washington needs new strategies to defeat ISIL in Syria and Iraq. In this regard, the Americans think that Iran can help them take out the terrorist group. It seems that Obama’s letter to Iran’s Leader, as The Wall Street Journal claims, has been written to seek Tehran’s assistance in the fight against ISIL, noted the daily, pointing out that the US however needs to adopt a better solution if it really seeks Iran’s cooperation against ISIL. The terrorist group cannot be crushed through a military operation, no matter how extensive it is because ISIL is promoting a dangerous ideology and can hardly be defeated militarily as long as its thoughts are supported by people. The US military presence in Iraq and Syria could even encourage the spread of the ISIL ideology. The Americans should look back and see that their invasion of Afghanistan failed to defeat the Taliban./end
