Book on late President Souphanouvong’s life

(KPL) The National Institute of Science and Society of the Prime Minister’s Office launched a book project on the late President Souphanouvong’s life and his revolutionary activities in Vientiane on 10 December. It will be published to commemorate his 100th birthday on 13 July 2009 and the writing of his life will be completed before the date.
The seminar on the publication of the book was attended by senior officials from relevant departments and the History Research Institute.
Mr Sileua Bounkham, Director of the National Institute of Science and Society, chaired the meeting and he narrated events in the life of the late President Souphanouvong.
“Late President Souphanovong was one of the outstanding leaders of the Party, Government and Lao people,” he said. The beloved late President Souphanouvong was a member of the royal family, but he chose to reject the good life that was his privilege at that time. Instead he opposed to the imperialist invader.
So he decided to join the revolutionary movement and fight for national liberty and sovereignty in order to wrest ownership of the land back to the Lao people.
“The Lao land must belong to the right owners - Lao people, and that was the battle cry of the beloved late President Souphanouvong,’ Mr Sileua said.
His life was full of complications, it was dangerous, sometimes he was detained by the enemy and he did suffer severe injuries but he defeated all these setbacks and emerged stronger than ever.
