TACTICAL BRIDGE WILL BE RELOCATED SATURDAY

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 12 (Bernama) -- The tactical bridge built by the army
will
be relocated latest Saturday after the permanent bridge being built by the
Public Works Department (PWD) is completed.

Commander of 11th Brigade based at Sg Buloh, Brig Jen Azman Rosli said
the tactical bridge would remain to help local residents commute.

"The tactical bridge is still needed to help residents move in and out of
the affected area. When the permanent bridge is completed, the tactical bridge
will be relocated and later used during flood operation.

"Army personnel are helping PWD in completing the bridge becasue it is
short
of manpower. We are hopeful that the permanent bridge will be ready soon," he
told reporters here Saturday.

The permanent bridge or "Compact-200 Bailey Bridge" can withstand 55 tonnes
of weight and functions both ways. It is 18 metre long and 11 metre
wide.

Azman said engineering assets and army logistics had been put on standby to
assist in landslide operation when needed.

The focus now was on rehabilitation and a meeting would be held with the
landlside main committee to discuss on the measures to be taken.

"We have 81 men and officers on duty at the landslide site. Our main job is
to help in engineering and supporting work like medical," he said adding it also
provided the media with images of the landslide from the air.

He urged residents unhappy with the job done by the army to lodge a report
at the police operation centre.

"Many residents had complained that the army did not do work and passed
some
rude comments. I want them to come forward and report the matter by providing
proof like names.

"The army is always striving to give the best but it will need some time.
Please be patient," he said.
