Vietnam, Russia promote joint research centre

Moscow (VNA) - The Joint Committee for the Vietnam-Russia Tropical Centre. A Scienfitic research organisation, convened its 21 st session in Moscow on Dec. 12.

Prominent among the attendees were Prof. Dmitry Pavlov, co-chairman of the
joint committee and president of the Russian section of the joint committee;
Associate Prof. Tran Quoc Toan, Vice Chairman of the Vietnamese Government
Office and first vice president of the Vietnamese section of the joint
committee; and Prof. Nguyen Kim Tien, Vietnamese Deputy Health Minister.

Opening the meeting, Prof. Pavlov said that, in 2008, the Vietnam-Russia
Tropical Centre celebrated its 20 th anniversary, creating impetus for the
centre's activities and the implementation of a strategy for the
development of the centre until 2020.

He said the Vietnamese leaders have recognised the centre's contributions
by awarding the "National Defence" Order, first class, to the centre, the
"Friendship" Order and Medal to eight Russian staff members, and the "Golden
Heart" Insignia of the Vietnam Association for Victims of Agent
Orange/Dioxin to 14 other Russian members of staff.

Forty-seven Vietnamese and Russian researchers from the centre have been
also awarded the honorary Certificate of Merit by the Russian Academy
of Sciences, he noted.

Associate Prof. Tran Quoc Toan, stressed that the Vietnamese and Russian
leaders actively support the Vietnam-Russia Tropical Centre.

During the recent visit to Russia by State President Nguyen Minh
Triet, the two sides issued a joint declaration saying "the centre is a
symbol of the two countries' friendship and cooperation. Vietnam values
the results of scientific and technological research conducted by the centre
and hopes that the centre will be developed to a new level."

The co-general directors of the centre, Trinh Quoc Khanh and X.V. Rumak,
signed a document approving the centre's management procedures for the
planning, carrying out and checking of scientific research.-Enditem
