Thai police launch "Push for Life" scheme

BANGKOK, February 17 (TNA) - Thailand's Metropolitan Police Bureau has joined forces with a private company running a most established Thai retailer's chain, Central Pattana Public Company Limited (CPN), to launch a public rescue programme, called "Police Help Me, Push for Life", in which people facing any incident in emergency can push a red button for an urgent assistance. Deputy Metropolitan Police Chief Police Major General Chantawit Ramasut presided over a ceremony to launch the programme at the Central Plaza Grand Rama 9 shopping complex on Tuesday, during which he presented the "Push for Life" equipment to the shopping mall. Earlier, the same "Push For Life" equipment were handed and installed on a footpath in front of other seven Central shopping centres in Bangkok, through which several people pushed the "red button" for help, mostly were accidents and brawls. The red emergency button, once pushed, will automatically send out a radio signal to a nearest police station, prompting local police to be able to arrive at the scene in around 3-10 minutes. The programme has been introduced as another rescue channel for the public in emergency, along with the wellknown emergecy hotline, 191, aimed to reduce losses of both people's lives and property. Both parties plan to later expand the implementation of the scheme at communities and crowded tourist sites across Bangkok, namely the Victory Monument and Chatuchak Market. (TNA)
