Lavrov to visit Nicaragua to discuss further political dialogue

MOSCOW, March 24. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will pay a visit to Nicaragua on March 25 as part of his Latin American tour, the Russian foreign ministry said on Tuesday. "The talks will focus of prospects for the development of bilateral political dialogue, most topical international problems, issues of practical cooperation in various spheres, and strengthening the legal framework of bilateral relations," the ministry said. "Our countries have time-tested friendly, brotherly relations that are gaining the character of strategic partnership," the ministry said. "Russia and Nicaragua have common vision of a fair world order, solidarity and mutual support in international affairs, which we highly appreciate. Moscow and Managua efficiently cooperate on the global arena. The two countries have close or similar positions on key issues of the global agenda, including measures to strengthen principles of the supremacy of international law, enhance the central role of the United Nations Organization in maintaining international stability and security, disarmament, space, anti-terrorism efforts, counteracting illegal drug trafficking and organized crime." "Closer partner relations between Russia and Nicaragua require a wider legal framework. The two countries are working on a number of draft bilateral agreements on cooperation between customs services, in the areas of education, public health, finance, veterinary and phytosanitary security," the Russian foreign ministry added.
