Russia hopes to expand cooperation with South Pacific states - Lukashevich

MOSCOW, April 2 /TASS/. Russia hopes to expand ties with South Pacific states, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said on Thursday. "Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will hold a traditional meeting with his counterparts from the island nations of the southern part of the Pacific Ocean in September on the sidelines of the jubilee session of the United Nations General Assembly," the Russian diplomat said. "I hope we will be able to reach a number of agreements that will promote our dialogue and expand our abilities for interaction. We have every opportunity for increasing the potential of investment cooperation. This is also true of tourism though, honestly, I am not sure that many of our tourists will wish to go that far. But the charms of nature are going to attract the growing number of our people to this region," Lukashevich said. "I hope that the September meeting will give an impetus and outline prospects for our future interaction," the diplomat said in conclusion. Read more
