1st anniversary of Northern Thailand quake

BANGKOK, May 5 (TNA) - Tuesday marks the first anniversary of 6.3 magnitude earthquake in Chiang Rai province where fearful residents held memorial and events to remember the loss in 2014. Communities in Mae Lao district in particular said they were afraid a similar disaster - which killed one person but damaged over 15,000 houses in the province on the evening of May 5 - could happen again despite they were better prepared. A parade was held along the main streets of Mae Suai district together with an exhibition to bring awareness to natural disasters and rescue approaches. They also raised donations to help earthquake victims in the province and Nepal. (TNA)
