MILLI MAJLIS DECIDES TO SUBMIT DRAFT ACT ON REFERENDUM ON CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS TO CONSTITUTIONAL COURT
Baku, 19 December,(AzerTAj)At its Friday session, Azerbaijan`s Milli Majlis decided,
with 95 votes in favor, 4 against and 1 abstention, to submit to the country`s
Constitutional Court a draft Act on Referendum on “making amendments and supplements
to the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan”.
The Act proposes making amendments and supplements to more than 20 clauses of the
Constitution.
The draft act was laid before the parliament by the Milli Majlis standing
commissions on legal policy and state building and on human rights. A four-member
working group was set up in the parliament to deal with the issue.
Chairman of the Milli Majlis standing commission on legal policy and state building
Ali Huseynov said the proposed amendments and supplements were very important in
terms of protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms, improvement of
principles of social justice as well as ongoing social and political processes in
the country.
