Underwater power cable project for three islands in Thai South
BANGKOK, May 13 (TNA) - The Thai Ministry of Interior plans to seek the Cabinet's approval of the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) to install an undersea electricity transmission cable to deliver electricity to Samui, Pha-ngan and Tao Islands of Surat Thani Province in the Thai South to serve growing power demand there.
Interior Minister General Anupong Paojinda told journalists on Wednesday (May 13) that the project will support the rapid expansion of economic activities and tourism on the southern resort islands.
General Anupong said he expects the installation of the new 26-kilometer-long cable, worth 2.13 billion baht, to begin later this year and finish within two years.
According to the interior minister, the project will reduce brownouts and blackouts on the three resort islands. (TNA)
