Thailand's anti-narcotics agency launches major crackdown on drug traffickers
BANGKOK, June 13 (TNA) - Thailand’s Office of the Narcotics Control Board or ONCB is launching a three-day operation against drug traffickers, set from June 12-14, and has already impounded assets, worth more than 100 million baht, from drug trafficking suspects.
ONCB Secretary-General Permpong Chaovalit told journalists on Saturday (Jun 13) that ONCB officers have, so far, searched 34 areas in 10 Provinces, including Bangkok.
Permpong said the three-day operation, which began on Friday (jun 12) and focuses in targeted areas nationwide, except the Thai South, has been considered successful, as some of the major five drug traffickers were apprehended along with drugs allegedly in their possession.
According to the ONCB chief, his agency has smashed four drug trafficking gangs and a total of 28 suspects have been arrested so far.
The ONCB chief insisted that the operation is underway for the fifth gang. (TNA)
