Strict law enforcement leads to Thailand's relieved corruption

BANGKOK, August 17 (TNA) - Strict law enforcement by the Thai government has helped relieve corruption in Thailand, as reflected by the Corruption Situation Index (CSI) in June 2015. Former Deputy Government Spokesman Major General Sansern Kaewkamnerd made the comment on Monday, referring to the CSI that Bangkok-based University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce calculated from an opinion survey on 2,400 respondents nationwide in June, including private business operators, public agencies' officials and the general public, compared to the previous CSI in December 2014. Major General Sansern said the latest CSI in June stood at 55, higher than 49 last December, showing that corruption in Thailand has relieved, as the higher the index stands, the more relieved corruption is. Proclaiming the latest CSI in June was the best in six years, Major General Sansern stressed that the Thai government is determined to tackle corruption at all levels to protect the country from profit-oriented politics, which has damaged the nation over the past decade. Major General Sansern, who is expected to be appointed a new post in the government very soon, noted that the Thai government is considering the survey's information on the causes of corruption, including leniency, corruption-facilitating legal loopholes and inefficient supervision in order to work out solutions accordingly.
