Thailand's new set of Charter drafters being selected
BANGKOK, September 9 (TNA) - A new set of 21 draft Constitution writers is being selected, following last Sunday's rejection of the previous draft Charter by members of the National Reform Council (NRC).
Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha, who is also Chief of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), told journalists of the update on Tuesday, stressing that the new 21 draft Constitution members must be self-confident and find a way out of domestic ideological difference.
The prime minister denied reports that he had ordered senior military officers who were NRC members to vote against the previous draft Charter on September 6 to enable him to stay longer in power, insisting that he does not want to obtain any benefit.
Regarding an approval of the fresh draft Charter, the prime minister pointed out that it depends on people across the country, not just the 21 new Charter writers.
The prime minister suggested that the new draft Charter hinge on universal principles with changes made in line with the prevailing situation and directions of national reforms. (TNA)
