Thailand hosts regional energy security conference

BANGKOK, October 26 (TNA) - The state-run Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) hosts a conference of the Association of the Electricity Supply Industry of East Asia and the Western Pacific (AESIEAP) in the northern region from October 25-27 to discuss energy security in East Asia and the Western Pacific. The AESIEAP CEO Conference 2015 is being organized at the Le Meridien Hotel in Chiang Mai Province and at the EGAT regional office in Mae Mo District of adjacent Lampang Province. EGAT Governor Soonchai Kumnoonsate told journalists on Monday that about 200 executives of electricity authorities in East Asia and the Western Pacific participate in the ongoing regional conference, entitled “Energy Sustainability and Security: Choices and Challenges for Power Supply Industry”. Soonchai said the senior participants were discussing regional cooperation on energy security, while EGAT was showing the environment-friendly management of its power generating facilities in Mae Mo. Early this month, EGAT won three best ASEAN Coal Awards for its clean coal technology, social responsibility and water pumping system in its mine and a second runner-up award for its mining process. AESIEAP, founded in 1975 for members to exchange expertise and technology related to the electricity supply industry, has played important roles in the regions, with EGAT being one of its co-founders. AESIEAP now has 25 member states and 110 member organizations and its CEO conference is held biennially, with EGAT previously organizing the regional conference in 1997. (TNA)
