Thai PM insists on necessity of cyber security unit
BANGKOK, October 28 (TNA) - Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha says that Thailand needs a cyber security unit to ensure technological security, urging the public not be paranoid about it.
The prime minister told journalists on Tuesday that the Defence Ministry is responsible for the new cyber security unit, while the Royal Thai Armed Forces are implementing the project, which has nothing to do with the idea about a single international Internet gateway.
The prime minister noted that Thailand's newly-set up cyber army would prevent any cyber war which is being handled by every country seriously.
According to the prime minister, cyber attacks include the transmission of signals to interrupt communications and the use of drones or satellites for espionage and the Thai military needs tools to cope with the emerging threats.
The Thai premier also revealed that Facebook pages bearing his name were made by his supporters and he does not have his own Facebook account.
Asked if the number of "likes" on such Facebook accounts could indicate his popularity, Prime Minister General Prayut stressed that he actually loves to see all 70 million Thai population love their nation and if only about one million of them loved him, it should be okay. (TNA)
