Sri Lankan President to visit Thailand

BANGKOK, Oct 28 (TNA) -- Sri Lanka's President Maithripala Sirisena and his delegation comprising ministers and business delegates will pay an official Visit to Thailand from November 1-4 by the invitation of Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha. The visit will highlight the 60th Anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Thailand and Sri Lanka this year. To commemorate this special occasion, Mr Sirisena will bring the Buddha’s Relics from the historical Mahiyangana Rajamaha Viharaya for exposition which will be open to the public to pay homage at Putthamonthon from November 2-16. In addition, Pirith chanting will be conducted by 60 Sri Lankan senior monks and the President will present a Buddha Statue to the Thai government, as a gift for this special occasion, at Dhammaram temple in Ayutthaya which was the residence temple of Phra U-bali Mahathera before he went to Sri Lanka in 1755. During the visit, Gen Prayut and Mr Sirisena will discuss bilateral issues such as ways and means to promote cultural relations, trade and investment, tourism as well as cooperation in regional and multilateral spheres. They will also witness the signing of MoU on Technical Cooperation between the ThaigGovernment and the government of Sri Lanka, and will exchange commemorative stamps. In addition, Mr Sirisena and Thai Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak are scheduled to deliver keynote addresses and remarks at the Thai-Sri Lankan Business Forum with the presence of both Sri Lankan and Thai business delegations.
