Bangkok to host One Young World Summit 2015 in Nov

BANGKOK, October 28 (TNA) - Bangkok will host the One Young World Summit 2015 in late November, the first time that such the summit is organized in Asia. Kate Robertson, a co-founder of One Young World, a forum for global young leaders to discuss urgent social problems and solutions, told journalists on Wednesday that Bangkok has been selected as the venue for the 6th One Young World Summit, set to be held during November 18-21, because the capital has growth potential and the diversity of races, religions and cultures, while also showing off peaceful co-existence. Robertson also said that Thailand suites the philosophy of One Young World because it is outstanding for social contribution activities in the region. Meanwhile, Bangkok Governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra noted that the about 1,500 young leaders from 196 countries who are expected to participate in next month's forum would have good opportunities to learn about Bangkok as a new business center in Asia. One Young World was founded in 2009 and about 1,500 young leaders, aged 18-30, from 190 countries usually attend its summit. It is the only gathering of so many young people of the world, except the Olympics Games. At the forum, global young leaders have, so far, shared their views directly to global leaders, like former US president Bill Clinton and former UN secretary-general Kofi Annan, who attended past summits. Topics for next month's summit cover education, environment, global business, human rights, leadership and political issues. (TNA)
