Gen Prawit orders tight security at EU, US embassies

BANGKOK, Nov 16 (TNA) -- Deputy Prime Minister/Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwon ordered security authorities to protect the embassies of European nations and the United States following attacks on France and Lebanon. Gen Prawit said his order went to chiefs of the armed forces but tips from general people would also be significant help for the efforts to guarantee security. He urged people to report any suspicious movements to police, the military and other authorities already deployed at places. He also ordered strict control at border checkpoints, especially those on the Thai-Malaysian border. He believed authorities could ensure security. Asked about protection for the important places of countries targeted by theIslamic State (IS) militant group, Gen Prawit said metropolitan police were guarding the embassies of European countries and the United States. Besides, he said there was not a plan to set up a security ministry while a military unit to tackle cyber threats was under the jurisdiction of the Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters. (TNA)
