Experts affirms mother panda will not give birth
CHIANG MAI, Nov 18 (TNA) -- Zoological park organisation and the panda research team concluded that they have been successful in fertilising the female panda ambassador, Lin Hui, though the mother had failed to give birth to another baby panda, while expressing that they would now seek out assistance from Chinese experts on the matter.
Director General of the Zoological Park Organisation under the Royal Patronage of HM the King, Benjapol Nakprasert, together with Director of Chiang Mai Zoo, Niphon Wichairat, and head of the Panda Research Team and Exhibition in Thailand, Veterinarian Dr Boripat Siriarunrat co-informed during a press briefing earlier today, that although the female panda, Lin Hui, has been in pregnancy for the past 148 days, her progesterone level has also declined lower than the normal level for over the last 2 weeks, and she has shown no signs of labour.
All three officials further noted that a discussion with Chinese experts during the World Panda meeting last week has concluded that Thailand has been successful in the insemination of the pandas but did not reach the final target in breeding another panda cub. Experts have said it is possible that the mother panda has revoked fetus from her womb.
Nonetheless, the Thai research team remained hopeful and is moving ahead with the planning for the next breeding season, where experts from China would be arriving in Thailand starting December to lend assistance in the operation. (TNA)
