Russian military operation in Syria continues without any limits - Kremlin

MOSCOW, November 27. /TASS/. Russia’s anti-terrorism operation in Syria continues without any limits, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Friday. "I know nothing about these agreements," Peskov said answering a question if Russia and Turkey have agreed on suspending Russian combat aviation flights. "We consider that Russia’s Aerospace Forces continue the operation on supporting offensive actions of Syria’s armed forces against terrorist organizations, continue without any limits as part of the well-known mission," Peskov said. He reminded that all the military contacts with the Turkish side have been suspended, as the Russian Defense Ministry said earlier. The Russian Defense Ministry and Turkey’s armed forces have halted cooperation via the hotline. A representative of Russia’s Navy stationed in Turkey for coordinating the actions of the Black Sea Fleet and Turkey’s Navy was also recalled. On Tuesday, a Turkish F-16 fighter jet brought down a Russian Sukhoi Su-24M bomber, which, Ankara alleges, violated the country’s airspace near the Syrian border. The Russian Defense Ministry said the warplane was flying over Syrian territory and had never violated Turkey’s airspace. Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that the attack on the Russian bomber would have "serious consequences" for Russian-Turkish relations. Action by the Turkish air force against the military jet, taking part in anti-terrorist operations in Syria and posing no threat to Turkey, was "a stab in Russia’s back", Putin said. Read more
