Death toll during New Year celebration in Vientiane receded

(KPL) At least three dead caused by road accidents Vientiane Capital during the International New Year celebration from 29 December 2008 to 1 January 2009.
Head of Traffic Police Office, Mr Viengsay Southiyanon said that a four-day celebration of New Year had occurred 45 accidents as result to 86 vehicles damaged and three people died.
He said that most of accidents caused by drivers violating traffic rule, driving fast and road in bad conditions, substandard vehicles and drink and drive.
Comparing to last year’s figure, 57 road accidents leading to 120 vehicles damaged, 76 considerable injures, 41 critical injures and five dead.
“However the accidents during New Year celebration saw it declined thanks to well preparation in the prevention of road accidents during the New Year celebration,” he continued. “We have deployed security forces to check along main roads and entertainment places in Vientiane”.
He also called for road users to pay more attention and respect in the traffic rule, slow driving, wearing helmet when driving motorbike and don’t drive when you got drunk.
