SIX QUAKES ROCK INDONESIA WEDNESDAY

Bengkulu, Jan 7 (ANTARA) - At least six earthquakes of different magnitudes had rocked some regions in Indonesia on Wednesday.

Information obtained from the Meteorology and Geophysics Station here on Wednesday said the first with a magnitude of 5.5 on the Richter scale shocked Manokwari, West Papua Province, at 02:56:26 West Indonesia Standard Time (WIB).

The temblor's epicenter is located 0.52 degree Southern Lattitude and 132.97 degree Eastern Longitude in a depth of 10 km in the sea, about 127 km southwest of Manokwari.

At about 03:12:13 (WIB), another quake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale hit Manokwari again. Located 0.82 degree Southern Latitude and 133.20 degrees Eastern Longitude, the temblor's epicenter lies 96 km Southwest of Manokwari in a depth of 20 km in the sea.

The third one struck Sorong, West Papua Province, at 05:47:33 (WIB). Measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale, the quake was located 0.48 degree Southern Latitude and 132.53 degrees Eastern Longitude and its epicenter was located 143 Northeast of Sorong in a depth of 10 km in the sea.

Manokwari was again jolted by a 5.4 magnitude quake at 09:54:36 (WIB) with its epicenter located in a depth of 10 km in the sea, 0.63 Southern Latitude and 133.24 Eastern Longitude.

At 10:43:09 (WIB), it was the turn of Ternate, North Maluku Province, to be struck by a 5.3 magnitude quake with its epicenter 124 km Northwest of Ternate, 1.88 degree Southern Latitude and 127.15 Eastern Longitude in a depth of 79 km in the sea.***
