IDI URGES ISRAEL TO STOP ITS BRUTAL STRIKES AGAINST HOSPITALS

Jakarta, Jan 7 (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Medical Association Executive Board (PB IDI) has urged Israel to immediately stop its military brutal strikes against public facilities in the Gaza Strip especially the civilian buildings, including hospitals.

IDI in a press release made available to Antara here on Wednesday said that the Israeli cruel military attacks particularly against hospitals were a form of human tragedy and violating international law.

Quoting the 1970 United Nations Resolution, IDI said,... military operations must be prevented from attacking residential areas, civilian shelters, hospitals and places used by civilians ..."
Therefore, the IDI executive board urged Israel to stop its military strikes immediately.

Also other targets like medical practitioners and paramedics, must not be subjected to Israeli brutal military attacks.

In the meantime, the Indonesian government has asked the chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) to support its action in calling for a United Nations General Assembly emergency session to discuss the crisis in Palestine, Foreign Minister Hassan Wirayuda said.
