Orthodox Christians celebrated Christmas

Almaty, 08 January 2008, (Khabar) - The orthodox believers of the World have celebrated their orthodox Christmas. The President Nursultan Nazarbayev has sent his greetings to the orthodox Kazakhstan’s people on the occasion of this holiday.
“Dear, fellow countrymen and orthodox Christians of Kazakhstan, I wish you all the best on this bright holiday of the Nativity of Christ with all my heart. All the citizens of the multi-confessional and multinational Kazakhstan celebrate this holiday with you today.

- The main in life is to keep soul pure and entrust it to God.
- People turned to God and it pleases that young people began believing in God.
- When I fell bad, I always ask help from God and he helps me. He hears everybody who asks him.
- Today the Orthodox Christians congratulate their Saviour on birthday. It is holiday of peace and kindness.

The bishop of Astana and Almaty Mefodiy celebrated the holiday at the Svyato-Voznesenki cathedral in Almaty together with parishioners. The Divine Liturgy lasted for 3 hours. After the divine service the Christmas message of the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Alexy II was given to all the faithful people of the Russian Orthodox Church which he managed to prepare not long before his death. It says: “I congratulate you all with all my heart on the holiday of the Nativity of our Lord and Saviour. Let Christ born in Bethlehem bless you all in the forth-coming year with peace, health and success in every good deed.”

Alexy, Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia, Orthodox Christmas 2008/2009, Moscow:
- Let there be the joy of living in harmony, love and truth in our homes, our countries, cities and everywhere. On this sacred holiday I address the word of the saint Apostle Paul to you: “Brethren, rejoice, improve, console yourself, be like-minded and peaceful and the Lord of love and peace will be with you. Amen.

Later, the church members were congratulated by the bishop of Astana and Almaty Mefodiy. He said that a spiritual life was always paid great attention to in Kazakhstan. Under the commission of Nursultan Nazarbayev, churches, mosques and cathedrals were restored and re-built and today thanks to the care of the state there are more than 3000 religious unions operating freely in the republic which represent over 40 faiths, added the bishop.

- I congratulate you all on the holiday of the Nativity of Christ again and invoke God’s blessings upon you all.
