Finnish Environment Minister lauds UAE's peaceful nuclear energy move

Abu Dhabi, Jan 8, 2008 (WAM) - Finnish Environment Minister Paula Lehtomaki has hailed the UAE efforts to access nuclear energy for civil purposes.

"We are ready to cooperate with the UAE in the field of peaceful nuclear energy because Finland is one of major countries in the peaceful energy industry area", she said. The Finnish official announced that her country will take part at the World Future Energy Summit and Exhibition from Jan. 19- 21 in Abu Dhabi.

Lehtomaki told Emirates News Agency (WAM) in an interview that Finland appreciates great efforts being exerted by the UAE to protect environment to achieve balanced ecosystem, indicating that UAE has achieved prosperity through transforming desert into green farms. The Finnish official cited Masdar initiative to build green Abu Dhabi city free from carbon by 2016.

She added that the UAE is one of few countries keen to provide clean environment to population through high tech systems. The Finnish official noted that the talks she held with the UAE Environment and Water Minister HE Rashid Ahmed bin Fahd and a number of the UAE officials would further promote cooperation in the field of environment.
