Lao-Indochina to purchase cassava at the same price

(KPL) The Lao-Indochina Group’s cassava flour mill confirmed to purchase cassava produce from farmers at the same price despite falling prices in overseas markets, said the president of the company.
Mr. Sengmaly Sengvatthana who takes the post said that the prices in overseas markets have fallen by 50 to 65 per cent since 2007 to be at US$250 per tone. “This is due to the global financial crisis.”
At the end of 2007, cassava flour was US$700 per tone and last year was US$350 and still keeps moving downwards.
“Although the prices of cassava flour in overseas markets moved downwards, the company will purchase cassava produce from farmers at the same price of 400,000 kip (approximately 47.2 US dollars) per tone to remain income generation of farmers,” he confirmed. “All cassava growers of the company no need to be worried because we will have continued to purchase their cassava produce.”
The factory of the company in Vientiane has so far exported almost 1,000 tones of cassava flour. The cassava flour factory of which the daily production capacity is 50-100 tones needs 200-320 tones of cassava produce per day.
