Vietnam assists Lao farmers to increase productivity in rice cultivation

(KPL) Dar Lai district, Kon Tum province, Vietnam would be providing technical assistance to Darkcheung district, Sekong province to increase productivity in rice cultivation.
Mr Thanouchon Chitphanyasone, Deputy Head of Agriculture and Forestry Office of Darkcheung district said that the district’s production of rice per hectare is quite low, only 1.4 to 1.5 tons per hectare.
Darkcheung district has already harvested the rice that was grown from the seeds of the Vietnamese hybrid but its production is still low and it may be due to the cool weather of this district and so there is now a search for a rice hybrid that is not only acclimatized to this kind of climate but which is also productive.
Farmers of this district are also getting help from a NGO, Anti-Hunger Programme of France, based in Sekong, and it has given them the seeds of a type of rice hybrid.
The Vietnamese made this commitment to give assistance when a delegation from Darkcheung district visited Kon Tum province early this month.
The Dar Lai district confirmed that it would send technical officials to carry out research on rice growing in Dark Cheung district.
The farmers of Darkcheung district grow rice on 600 hectares of land and they are now preparing the land for dry season rice growing.
